New VH1 Series: ‘We’re in Production Now.

Interviewed on Musings of a Muse, Beverly Hills salon owner Elgin Charles— whose celeb clients include Star Jones, Diahann Carroll and Hattie Winston— reveals the name of his new VH1 reality series, and how it came to be“ They approached me,” Elgin, who appeared on Style Network’s ast year, tells host Suncera Johnson. “I was doing Star’s [hair] at The Insider and I had to leave to go pitch at VH1. So I took two of my other stylists that were on Split Ends with me and we went and pitched“I went there with everything that I had I even had a makeup artist beat my face full of makeup“I sat down with four of their execs, and we started talking about the salon—it was supposed to be a 25-minute meeting and it turned into about an hour and 15 minutes.“Then, a week later, they called me and said, ‘You know what? We like you and we want to develop a show for you,’” continues Elgin.“We’re in production now. Money has been transferred. The show has been green- it. We’re starting to tape on Sept. 15, and the name of the show is Beverly Hills Fabulous.“The goal of the show is to bring you into the world of hair styling, the world of Beverly Hills and the world of the black community, and how we interact with the different aspects of the fashion and beauty industries.” Elgin also reflects on raising his adopted son, Frank, with Jackée (with whom he split in 2003), who’s perhaps best known for the spunky yet no-nonsense characters she played on 227 and Sister, Sister.“Being an actress—you know actresses can be very temperamenta themselves, and you’re dealing with a pessimistic child—so I’ve to be like a peacemaker between the two,” he says of Frank, 16, and Jackée.“But now that he’s grown up, he’s mature—and he needs his mother.”
