US Magazine Review | Football Wives 3/5 stars

1286895705_football-290.jpg

Airs Sunday 10/24
Us rating: ***
This is a brisk and flavored peek into Dallas' money-gushing world of pro football. The drama goes deep right away as the glam women, including flashy Amanda (wife of Dallas Cowboy Leonard Davis) and elegant Erin (Cowboy Mat McBriar's missus), fret about their loves' dangerous jobs. Even the staged shenanigans score, notably when two of the ladies bolt from a Bible study to hit a movie premiere. Awkward and hilarious. (VH1, 10:30 P.M.)

Jessica Simpson keeps it real

Q: You've been criticized in the media for your weight, but you seem to handle it well. Any advice for those struggling with body and esteem issues?
A: Be true to your own inner beauty. Find what makes you unique and focus on that instead of what you think other people see when they look at you.

Q: Where does your strength come from?
A: I think through meeting women all over the world for Price of Beauty. I really learned that we are all unique in our skin, and you have to own that. I have the best support, a great family and friends who are there to remind me when it gets tough.

Q: What have you learned about your own style through the years?
A: It should be effortless. When you feel good in what you are wearing, it's a natural fit. A pair of worn-in jeans can be as sexy as a red-carpet dress. I try to define my style, and collection, in the same way.

Q: Many women, young and old, profess a love for your shoes. What do you look for in a shoe?
A: Mainly, I look for comfort, but I love to wear heels. Sometimes if the shoe is amazing, I have to suffer for the sake of fashion!

Q: How many pairs do you own?
A: More than 300 pairs. I actually cleaned out my closets this summer but couldn't get rid of any shoes from my own collection plus countless more.

Q: What's the one outfit you feel great in no matter what?
A: I feel the best, and most like myself, in a great pair of jeans, a T-shirt and high heels.

Q: Any favorites in your Jessica Simpson Collection for fall?
A: I've been wearing the Vintage Flare (jeans) a lot lately. It must be my Texas roots, but I always love a little flare. I also love the Forever Skinny and Jeggings. They look great with my boots. We've got some great blazers and fashion sweaters this holiday, too. For shoes, the knee-high boots are so hot, and we are bringing back my favorite shoe, the Dany, in new colors and materials.

Q: What's something surprising about you?
A: I love photography. I collect old vintage cameras and love to take pictures of clouds.

Q: You are a proud Texan. Anything you miss about living here?
A: I would say first and foremost I miss my grandparents and then Tex-Mex. You cannot find true Tex-Mex anywhere else in the world. And I also miss the friendliness of Texans.

Q&A Halie305: Miami Video Vixen and Chad Ochocinco's Ultimate Catch

If you've paid attention to recent hip-hop videos or maybe even watched VH1, then you've probably seen Halie, AKA Halie305, AKA Heather from The Ultimate Catch.

A curvaceous 36-25-41 beauty from Miami, Halie's appearance (as Heather) on VH1's summer reality dating series starring Liberty City's boy wonder, Chad Ochocinco of the Cincinatti Bengals, stirred some controversy when the pro footballer allegedly claimed he had never met her before. With a series of screen-captured private direct messages on Twitter, though, Halie seems to have the proof to back her story up.

Either way, New Times caught up with Halie for a quick Q&A and a peek at a couple photos that show exactly what Halie's working with. Brace yourselves, fellas.

New Times: Introduce yourself and what you like to do outside modeling.

Halie: I am mixed: black and white. I love watching movies, going to the beach, spending time with my family, eating a good meal, and keeping my body and looks on point!

You've been in tons of music videos, what was your favorite video that you've done thus far and why?

I really liked working on the video for "I Like" with Jeremih. He was very laid back and down to earth. And being on a yacht all day in the middle of the ocean wasn't so bad! Also, Ray Kay is a great director.

What artists are you listening to right now?

That's a hard one, but I'm feeling the new Trey Songz album: Passion, Pain and Pleasure. And I love Gucci Mane and Git Fresh.

How was your time on VH1's The Ultimate Catch, how has it been for you since the show aired and ended?

The show was very interesting. It was odd being on the other side of the camera. The production gets to portray you however they like. The controversy surrounding Chad knowing or not knowing me was put to rest when I put the evidence on my websiteHalie305.com. But I got a lot of fans from the show and it helped me with my modeling opportunities. I think that's the best that came from the show, but of course, [there are and always will be] some haters!

What do you look for in a guy?

Point blank, I need an honest guy. I hate liars. I need someone funny and spontaneous. But in the looks category, I like guys with a little flavor and big lips is a plus!

Any upcoming projects or magazine covers that we should expect you on?

I was just in Hip Hop Weekly. I am also in an upcoming issue of Blackmens magazine and an upcoming XXL magazine Eye Candy!

Follow Halie on Twitter @halie305 and get all the latest via her website Halie305.com, where she will soon be selling posters, shirts and other merchandise.

Q&A: Bret Michaels on health scare

"Life as I Know It," with Michaels' longtime girlfriend, Kristi Gibson, and their daughters, Raine, 10, and Jorja, 5, premieres Monday, and the singer performs at the Arizona State Fair on Oct. 23.
He called to talk about his health, career, family and love of Arizona.

Question: How are you feeling?
Answer: I'm at about 75 to 80 percent of where I would like to be. But considering everything I've been through - not only being diabetic (since age 6) but the appendectomy, the brain hemorrhage, and now they have diagnosed a PFO (patent foramen ovale), which is a hole in my heart . . . I'm thinking I'm in good shape.

Q: How are your doctors in Phoenix assisting with your recovery?
A: They do weekly blood work. From the appendectomy, which was in early April, till the very end of May, I had pretty much been in the ICU (at Barrow and neighboring St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center), going back and forth. In the third week of January, I go in and get (the heart operation) done.

Q: You grew up in Pittsburgh but decided to settle down in north Scottsdale. Why?
A: I love that Southwestern, open desert feeling. It's a beautiful area to live in and raise my kids. I bought a 5-acre property in the Silverleaf-DC Ranch area. Luckily, there was another 5 acres that abutted that we ended up getting.
You've got this really cool vibe, but it's also laid-back enough that you can enjoy it. You're in a very contemporary city with great sports teams . . . but if you want to get out in the open desert, you can get out there.

Q: How much time are you able to spend at home?
A: I balance it. We have five (shows) in a row this week. I'll come home Sunday night and stay for two or three days, then fly back for the next show. I go back every chance I get. My daughters are in school right now, and I like to go down and be as much of a participant in all the stuff that's going on.

Q: You've had friends in Phoenix since Poison's early days in the 1980s.
A: I have had such a history with Phoenix and that whole area. When Poison first started, we would come down and play (at such bars as) the Mason Jar. We started by moving the pool table out of the corner . . . to make room for our drums. When I say we paid our dues there, we truly did.

Q: Where in the Valley do you and your family enjoy hanging out?
A: I love Mastro's (Steakhouse in north Scottsdale). I've been around the world and I've seen a lot of good steaks. But that one, right there, I can't get enough of it, and the pretzel bread.
My kids and I love to go down to CrackerJax, a little amusement park (in north Scottsdale). In the middle of the day, when there's no one there, I'll pull my kids out of school and we'll go ride the go-karts. They laugh at me.

Q: You've been spotted in Cave Creek and other motorcycle-friendly locations on your Harley-Davidson.
A: I just love motorcycles. For the road, I love the Harleys, the big bikes. But I also race dirt bikes. A good, long ride on a warm day on a Harley is good for your soul. I go by myself a lot. That alone time riding, it makes everything right with the world.

Q: Was Kristi open to another reality show, after your previous series (VH1's "Rock of Love") had you seeking relationships with other women?
A: At first, I don't think either one of us was crazy about the idea, but I made the deal; I was executive producer. A lot of those shows are very overproduced. They tell you, "You're going to go shopping. You're going to do this."
But with this show, everything is real - my family, the school. I just took my daughter Raine down to Phoenix Children's Hospital, and we met all the kids that had just been diagnosed with diabetes. We took a bunch of stuff and spent time with the families.

Q: Were you surprised by the flood of media and fan attention when you got sick?
A: I've dealt with TMZ and the media for years . . . but I was absolutely surprised. When you are sick for real, lying in a bed, there is nothing glorious, starlike or romantic about being in an ICU. It really lifted my spirits to see the amount of people who were concerned.

Q: What did you take away from the "Apprentice" experience?
A: I watched the way Trump did things. He is a very secure guy, but he's very funny. He has a real self-deprecating sense of humor, but when he wants something done, he does not screw around. I agree that procrastination is death.

Q: Is the band OK with you doing solo albums and tours?
A: Poison tours every summer, and I enjoy those couple months with my band. But I am still extremely passionate about making new music, which is why I stepped out solo in 2002.
