Bret Michaels & Kristi Gibson Engagement More Likely Than Ever

Bret Michaels & Kristi Gibson Engagement More Likely Than Ever

Las Vegas doesn't have official odds on whether Bret Michaels and Kristi Gibson will finally get engaged. But Michaels says it's a better bet than ever.

The chances that he and his on-and-off girlfriend of 16 years will decide to marry are now about "50/50," the rocker told PEOPLE on Monday in Vegas. That's way up from the past few years – his VH1 Rock of Love days – when the odds were probably 1 in 100, he says.

"We've been talking a lot about getting engaged, and we'll see what happens," said Michaels, 47, who was in Sin City to co-host the 2010 Miss Universe Pageant. "We just want to make sure we're not doing it for anyone other than ourselves."

Bret Michaels to host the Miss Universe Pageant

2010 has been ups and downs for Bret Micheals, surviving an illness, winning Celebrity Apprentice, performing on American Idol.

Now he has signed up to host the Miss Universe pageant on Aug. 23rd along with Natalie Morales.

His new VH1 show will debut in the fall.

The 59th annual pageant, produced and owned by Michaels' 'Apprentice' boss Donald Trump, will air live from Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino. Australian singer/songwriter Orianthi will perform her hit single 'According to You' during the pageant's swimsuit competition, while John Legend & The Roots will perform during the evening gown competition. The two-hour NBC show will feature more than 80 women from all over the world competing in swimsuit, evening gown and interview events.

The United States will be represented by Miss USA 2010, Rima Fakih, while the new Miss Universe will be crowned by 2009 winner Stefania Fernandez, from Venezuela.

As for Michaels, the pageant-hosting gig is just the latest in a string of appearances the singer has made since his much-publicized health woes last spring. Within a six-week period in April and May, Type I diabetic Michaels underwent an emergency appendectomy, suffered a brain hemorrhage and was discovered to have a hole in his heart. Miraculously, he has completely recovered from his three hospital stays.

Bret Michaels Album Review

Bret Michaels 'Custom Built' (Poor Boy)

2 1/2 stars = Average
Ratings explained
He got smashed in the head at the Tonys, faced diabetes and brain hemorrhages, romanced groupies on VH1's "Rock of Love," stood toe-to-toe (hair-to-hair?) with Donald Trump while winning "Celebrity Apprentice" -- and still Bret Michaels comes out smelling like the thorny rose he often sings about.
Capitalizing on Mr. Michaels' reality-TV fame, "Custom Built" cobbles together tracks from previous solo albums and redoes past hits as hillbilly ballads or whip-cracking rockers. Throughout, Mr. Michaels' handsome voice saves the day. His charm shows through on the retreads, and on the newer, sleazy, hair-metal tunes and country-tinged cuties, Mr. Michaels extends his musky vocals even further. The Nashville twang of "Wasted Time" and his duet with moaning tween Miley Cyrus on "Nothing to Lose" alone are worth the purchase.

Illegal drugs found in Bret Michael's bus

The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office tells TMZ Bret was onboard one of buses when cops made the stop at around 11:30 PM.  K9s found the pot.  One of the buses -- not the one Bret was on -- had Schedule II controlled substances inside, and cops tells us they're illegal drugs.

Citations were issued but no arrests were made.  The case is being forwarded to DeKalb prosecutors.

Bret Michaels talks about his recovery and new album on Entertainment Tonight

Bret Micheals was recently on Entertainment Tonight and he speaks about his recovery ans his new solo album "Custom Built"

Now he has a brand-new album out, Custom Built -- which features his cover of the Sublime hit "What I Got" -- and he's currently on tour with Lynyrd Skynyrd. But does he think he pushed himself to get back on the road too soon?
"I'll be honest with you. I took every precaution," Bret says. "I wouldn't do it if I thought I was going to die. Like, I wouldn't do any of this stuff if I thought it was going to kill me."
"I fought too hard to live," he continues. "I want to show people I'm healthy. I feel great. I'm thankful for all the well wishes and everything that came my way, but let's get back to having a great time. Let's get back to rockin' again."
He began rocking again on the "American Idol" finale in May, singing his signature hit from his days with Poison, "Every Rose Has Its Thorn." And last month on "Good Morning America," he joined Miley Cyrus, who covers the song on her album Can't Be Tamed. The connection continues on Bret's album, with Miley singing harmonies on his song "Nothing to Lose."
Their pairing -- and the song's suggestive lyrics -- created some controversy.
"Miley and her family -- Tish and Billy Ray and all of them -- they've all been friends, you know, I've known them for a while. They've been out to our shows and my daughters have been to her shows... And she [Miley] came in and sang a really, really awesome harmony to it. And it caused amazing controversy out of nothing. Like, literally, there was all this, you know, 'How can they be singing a duet together?' And I said, 'It's not a duet. She's singing harmonies.'"

His new VH1 reality show Bret Micheals : Life As I Know It officially starts in the fall. We got a taste of a sneak peek of the show back in May.

Bret Michaels in talks with American Idol Producers

Rumors have been going on that Bret Michaels might be replacing Simon Cowell as a judge on American Idol. Well according to roadrunnerrecords.com Bret Michaels is in talks with the American Idol producers about possibly becoming the next judge.

"He tells Parade.com, "We have a meeting in L.A. in a couple weeks and we're going to sit down and talk. They did a poll and I think it wasMadonna, P. Diddy, Howard Stern and myself, and I took 50 percent or 60 percent of the vote and that's tremendous.

"I would love to be a judge on 'American Idol'. I think I would bring a lot to the table.

"I'm not built exactly like Simon Cowell, but, at the same time, I respect what he did. I would have to bring my own personality. I think if they have someone in there to try to imitate Simon, it would be a mistake; he's an original."
