"Official Hot Mess talks VH1, Playboy Mansion, Flava Flav and Adrianne Curry." - Interview

Official Hot Mess is duo made up of two very good looking sisters, but don’t think that’s all they have to offer. They have a music video out entitled “Welcome 2 LA” featuring Adrianne Curry and Flava Flav. They’ve played the Playboy Mansion on more than one occasion and they already have a reality television deal. Recently I got a chance to talk with Official Hot Mess.

Q – How would you describe your music?

A - You could describe our music as Blondie meets Cindy Lauper – it’s fun, quirky music that's sure to get a party started; perfect for a girl's night out!

Q – How long have you been playing music, and what was the moment that made you decide this is what you wanted to do?

A - We wrote our first song when we were really little kids on a PBS children's television show and haven't stopped writing and creating music since. We were born in Hollywood, but our parents moved us away from the LA scene to a sleepy little beach town in Florida where we went to a public school for the academically and musically gifted. Despite their attempts to keep us out of the entertainment industry, music was always our passion and we were creating music for fun since we were little kids. We were sort of rebels in our high school (that consisted of a student body of certified geniuses) in the sense that we weren’t focused on our academics, and we solely wanted to pursue our music. We play piano and guitar by ear and pick out our melodies that way.

Q – Do you think being the daughters of two celebrities has been a crutch you’ve had to overcome or has it helped in terms of getting your music out there?

A - We totally respect our parents’ and their respective careers, but music is our passion and we are pursuing this on our own. We’re really lucky that they raised us with such good heads on our shoulders, so we are confident in making our own decisions, and following our own paths. They really have no connections to help us in the music industry… and that’s fine, because we’re smart and independent young women pursuing our own goals.

Q – There seems to be a level of humor in your music and video. How important is the comedic element to you?

A - I think a lot of people are surprised by the fact that we're more than just typical blonde bimbos. We actually have a sense of musical ability and we incorporate our personalities and sarcastic sense of humor into that. The sarcasm and a little bit of humor intrinsically comes with Official Hot Mess. Look at our name, lol!

Q – How did you manage to get Flava Flav and Adrianne Curry for your video “Welcome 2 LA?”

A -The first time our band played at The Playboy Mansion, we met Adrienne Curry. She heard us play the song, and she was really into it. She loved the sarcastic flavor to it, and she wanted to be in the video so she smoked weed and played Guitar Hero in the video! We met Flavor Flav at another event our band was playing at, and we clicked, so the video for “Welcome 2 LA” is set at Flav’s house party.

Q – Tell us about performing at the Playboy Mansion. How did that come about and what is that experience like?

A - Performing at the Playboy Mansion for the first time could be described in 2 words - culture shock, lol! With us and the 4 guys in our band coming from this quaint little town in Florida, it was an amazing experience to perform there. They say when you’re nervous, you should picture the audience naked, well you can’t do that at The Playboy Mansion, cause most of them already are, lol. We have a great friendship with Hef, and he’s really supportive of our music.

– You begin shooting a reality show for VH1 later on this summer. Can you tell us what it’s going to be about?

A - It’s gonna be a really fun, honest show that goes behind the scenes and documents the outrageous antics and chaos that ensues when we and the 4 wild and crazy guys in our band hit the road. Our contrasting lifestyles - life in our sleepy little beach town in FL (where the average age is death vs. the crazy “rock star lifestyle” we lead when we’re back in Hollywood.

Q – Do you have any reservations about letting the camera invade your private lives?

A - I don’t think so… at this point, lol, because we really don’t have anything to hide, you might as well go out there and be yourself because there's no point in trying to be someone you're not.

Q – Who are some of your early influences?

A - Most of our songs are pop with an underlying rock feel which comes from being influenced by artists like Blondie, Cyndi Lauper, The Bangles, Pat Benatar, and The GoGo's. We're influenced by rock, alternative, hip hop, etc and bring aspects of each genre into our personal style.

Q – Thanks for taking the time and good luck with everything. Is there anything else you’d like to add?

A - You can find out lots about us and hear our music on our MySpace page at www.MySpace.com/OfficialHotMess, our Facebook page at www.FaceBook.com/OfficialHotMess, and follow us on Twitter at twitter.com/OfficialHotMess

My thoughts on the new VH1 Shows

Brandy & Ray-J : A Family Business

Here are my thoughts on this show. This show is a spinoff of For The Love Of Ray-J produced by 51 minds. It premiered this past Sunday. I was a bit unsure if I was going to like this show or not this show centers around the family. This show did trend on twitter Sunday night but I think the reason why is because of Brandy I mean lets face it, people do want to watch this because of Brandy if this was just another Ray-J show I don't think people would have watch it. Brandy is the star of this show sorry Ray-J. Episode 2 which airs this Sunday will be interesting because it will deal with For the love Of Ray-J 2 reunion the behind the scenes of it, That should be interesting. The preview showed Cocktail coming out and Ray-J freaks out backstage lol  but overall if it wasn't for Brandy, this show would have sucked.

6/10

 Basketball Wives

Basketball Wives premiered Sunday night as well. It premiered right after Brandy & Ray-J. I wasn't really feel it it. This show reminded me of Real Housewives of Atlanta. This show centers around the wives of basketball players. We have Shaunie, Erikka, Moxam, Royce, Jennifer, Evelyn , Susie and Gloria.

VH1 just announced Football Wives ... sigh   I guess that will be season 2? What's next Baseball Wives? Soccer Wives? maybe Golf Wives who knows. This show was my least favorite new VH1 show.

4/10

What Chilli Wants

What Chilli Wants was one of my favorite new shows of that night. The show deals with Chilli from the group TLC trying to find a man. The thing that trips me out is that she has this checklist. She wants a dude who has a six pack, who doesn't eat pork, who has big ..... and the list goes on. Now if you going to have a checklist that tells me you are not going to find nobody. Nobody is perfect.  We will see how this season unfolds. I really enjoy the season premeire.

9/10
Tough Love Couples

Another new favorite show of mine on VH1 was Tough Love Couples. It premiered on Monday night. It is the 3rd season of the show Tough Love but this time Steve and his mom Jo Ann deals troubles couples , it kinda has a similair concept to the show Tool academy except no one gets eliminated. Now even Tough Love has more seasons than I Love money SMH.  There are six couples and each of them have different problems they need to work on. I enjoyed the season premiere. We will also see more of his mom.

10/10

But STILL VH1 needs to stick with their old programming. I am just hoping they will work on I Love Money somehow, it is not not fair that one man can screw everything up for us.

VH1.com  has just announced  acrop of new shows coming soon to VH1, one show is with Laverne who was the trangender female on the 1st season of I Want To Work for Diddy

check out it out:

In the coming months, VH1 is set to air a slew of new shows, including Transform Me, a makeover show featuring I Want To Work for Diddy Season 1 breakout Laverne Cox. Details on that and more in the press release below:

VH1 has greenlit three new series, two about transforming people from the inside out and one that hopes to shed some light on a few untimely deaths. Transform Me features three transgender female friends giving women a style makeover while helping them overcome some emotional road bumps. In Famous Crime Scene VH1 will take the viewers to an actual crime scene of a famous murder or untimely death and explore the details behind the often murky circumstances. Undateable based on the upcoming book, Undateable: 311 Things Guys Do That Guarantee They Won’t be Dating or Having Sex written by Ellen Rakieten and Anne Coyle, will reveal the secret list that gives guys everything they need to know to get out of their own way when it comes to dating, sex, love and relationships transforming them from undateable to dateable. VH1 has also acquired the hit MTV Canada series, Peak Season: Vancouver just as the world focuses its attention on this beautiful city for the 2010 Winter Olympics.

These programming additions come on the heels of several recent ratings successes with new series such as Fantasia For Real and Let’s Talk About Pep, which premiered in January to more than 2.3 million viewers and 1.9 million viewers, respectively.

Transfrom Me

VH1 and Left/Right Inc. have teamed up to bring to television the newest breed of fashion makeover shows with Transform Me. Each half-hour episode follows the makeover of one woman who has found herself in a style nightmare. The subjects expect to be made over in typical reality show fashion, but are in for a surprise when a team of three transgender women arrive to give them an expert transformation. The new eight-episode 30-minute series is set to premiere March 15, 2010.

The ultra glamorous makeover team, led by Laverne Cox (VH1’s I Want to Work for Diddy) with Jamie Clayton and Nina Poon, travel across the country answering style-911 calls in their deluxe fashion ambulance, saving women from their clothing faux pas. But unlike other makeover shows, this series focuses on overall transformations, helping to improve each woman on the inside as well as the outside. The team will have to push each subject out of her emotional comfort zones and there will be no shortage of tears, arguments, and OMG! moments along the way.

Laverne, who appeared in the first season of VH1’s I Want to Work for Diddy as the outspoken and poised transgender contestant, has also recently appeared in episodes of NBC’s Law and Order, HBO’s Bored to Death along with several independent films, and has performed at Radio City Music Hall.

Based on an original concept and pitch by Laverne Cox and her production company Complete World Domination, Transform Me is executive produced by Banks Tarver and Ken Druckerman for Left/Right Inc. with Shelly Tatro, Danielle Gelfand, Kari McFarland and Jeff Olde serving as executive producers for VH1.

Famous Crime Scene

VH1 is returning to the scene of some of pop culture and music’s most shocking deaths with Famous Crime Scene. The first episode will take an in-depth look at the murder of Tupac Shakur. The additional six episodes will investigate the untimely deaths of Biggie Smalls, John Lennon, Anna Nicole Smith, Selena, Marvin Gaye and Michael Jackson. The seven episode half-hour series is set to premiere on Friday, February 12 at 9pm.

While news accounts tell only part of the story, VH1 has rounded up the witnesses and investigators who were there to give viewers the intimate details from the initial 911 call to the investigators’ final determination to help piece together what really happened. Using expert interviews and true-to-life reenactments, as well as advanced computer graphics, viewers will witness full recreations of these historic events. They’ll tour virtual crime scenes searching for clues and learn the science behind the investigators’ findings: ballistics, fingerprints, DNA evidence, toxicology, profiling and more.

Executive producing Famous Crime Scenes, for VH1 are Shelly Tatro, Brad Abramson and Jeff Olde. Supervising producer is Warren Cohen and Chris Martin is series producer and director.

Undateable

Undateable is a new five-hour VH1 special airing over five consecutive nights, which looks at all the things that men do wrong in the eyes of the opposite sex. The series is based on the upcoming book Undateable: 311 Things Guys Do That Guarantee They Won’t be Dating or Having Sex written by Ellen Rakieten and Anne Coyle. Undateable is scheduled to begin its five-night run on Monday, April 19.

Ellen Rakieten spent the last 23 years as a key force in creating The Oprah Winfrey Show. Anne Coyle is an award-winning advertising copywriter and owner of a nationally acclaimed interior design firm. The show will take a fun look at the top 100 things guys do that make them “undateable.”

Undateable shows men how to avoid wearing the wrong things, doing the wrong things and of course, saying the wrong things that are all instant warning signs to women. Undateable will be invaluable in helping teach men about their mistakes and women about what indiscretions are just “red flags” and which are the absolute “kiss of death.” So put away the Bluetooth, shave that goatee, put the dad jeans in the closet and join VH1 to learn about the things men do that make them “undateable.”

Executive producing Undateable for VH1 are Ellen Rakieten, Shelly Tatro, Karla Hidalgo and Jeff Olde.

Peak Season: Vancouver

VH1 has acquired the MTV Canada hit docudrama series, Peak Season: Vancouver an original half-hour series that takes an unfiltered look at the lives, loves and adventures of a tight-knit group of young adults in Vancouver/Whistler, BC. The 10-episode series is set to air nightly on VH1 beginning Sunday, February 14 at 11:30pm.

Peak Season: Vancouver offers a unique glimpse beneath the sparkling surface of this world-class ski resort and home to the 2010 Winter Olympics revealing the raw, real-life drama that unfolds amid the breathtaking scenery. Featuring a diverse and dynamic cast, the series delivers a potent blend of drama, action, romance and comedy as the cast follow their hearts and chase their dreams all during the frenetic pace of peak season. A lot happens in this resort playground when the locals and outsiders from around the world co-exist as everyone struggles to find love, friendship and themselves. While every town has stories and secrets, few rival the ones from Vancouver as captured in this smash hit series.

For more information on these four new series including show clips and full episodes throughout their seasons, go to VH1.com.

Peak Season: Vancouver was executive produced by Evan Prager and Jesse Ignjatovic for Den of Thieves.

New VH1 show Basketball Wives coming in March

Yet another VH1 show on the half-hour docu-soap tip is coming to VH1 next year. Basketball Wives will follow the lives of loves and ex-loves of such basketball players as Shaquille O’Neal, Eric Williams, Antoine Walker, Jermaine O’Neal and Udonis Haslem. Check the press release below for info on Basketball Wives:

VH1 has teamed up with the wives and girlfriends of some of the NBA’s most elite players to give the viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the glamorous life of a professional basketball player’s wife in VH1’s original series, Basketball Wives. Production is set to begin on the series in December 2009. The eight-episode 30-minute series is set to premiere on March 15, 2010.

This series is about the insider life of the wives, girlfriends and a few ex-wives of some of the biggest ballers in the game. These ladies live the life. They drive the best cars, live in the biggest mansions, wear designer clothes and jewelry and only travel first class. But living the high life is not all glamour. In order to protect it, they have to deal with the jealousies and dramas of living in — and staying in — the inner circle. They must also keep the groupies at bay while their husbands and boyfriends are traveling on the road for over six months of the year playing ball all-the-while wondering if their spouses are being faithful to them.

The cast is filled with the wives and ex-wives of superstars including Jennifer Williams (wife of Eric Williams), Evelyn Lozada (ex-fiancé of Antoine Walker), Mesha O’Neal (wife of Jermaine O’Neal), Royce Reed, Faith Rain (Udonis Haslem’s girlfriend) and Shaunie O’Neal (wife of Shaquille O’Neal) who will also serve as executive producer on the series.

New VH1 show Secrets Of Aspen coming January

VH1 has teamed up again with High Noon Entertainment, the producers of the hit series VH1 Tough Love, for a new docu-soap style series Secrets of Aspen. The show will explore the lives of six women and one man who live in America’s most renowned ski town – Aspen, Colorado. Known as a playground for the rich and famous, Aspen has become one of the country’s most expensive zip codes to live in. However, not everyone living in this small town can afford to live the lavish lifestyle. Aspen is made up of haves and have-nots where friction commonly occurs between the two. Secrets of Aspen premieres Sunday, January 3 at 10:00 PM.

The half-hour, eight-episode series will follow six dynamic ladies and one lucky guy on their quest to find love, pay the rent, and stay friends - all at the same time. Together these ladies represent a cross section of Aspen’s modern women. However, they are not your typical housewives. Some of the ladies in town own three homes, while others work three jobs. They live in a small city filled with big egos and even bigger drama, making it hard to hold onto any man that comes their way, let alone a husband.

Aspen is an exclusive town of 5,000 residents that swells to 40,000 during peak season, providing endless opportunities and temptations for its locals. With limited permanent residents, the single life tends to take priority over long-term relationships. For these Aspenites, the continual ebb and flow of snow and money makes this town a challenging place to survive. The only guarantees in Aspen are gossip and drama. Catch the new series Secrets of Aspen premiering on VH1 on Sunday, January 3, 2010 at 10 PM*.

Viewers can catch a sneak peek of the season’s first episode on VH1.com and on VH1 Mobile on Monday, December 28 – six days before the on-air premiere. Subsequent episodes will be available on VH1.com the morning after they air. Additional video content from Secrets of Aspen including a weekly online after show with cast members from the series will be available on VH1.com and on VH1 Mobile throughout the season.

VH1's newest award show "To Do Something Awards"

VH1 is teaming up with DoSomething.org for a new, uplifting take on the televised awards show. Details in the press release below…

VH1 has partnered with DoSomething.org to create the premiere award platform for young people and social change. VH1 will televise live the 2010 Do Something Awards on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 from Los Angeles.

This partnership combines America’s largest organization for young people and social change with a network known for innovation and edge. The program will honor the most amazing young people who are rocking causes in extraordinary ways.

“Do not expect violins and tuxedos. It’s gonna be loud and live,” says Nancy Lublin, CEO and Chief Old Person of DoSomething.org.

Since 1996, Do Something has honored the nation’s best young world-changers—like Maggie Doyne who created an orphanage in Nepal at the age of 17 and now (at the ripe age of 22) is the legal guardian to 27 children. Do Something award winners represent the pivotal “doers” in their field, cause, or issue.

The five nominees will be rewarded with a community grant, participation in this live tv show, media coverage and continued support from Do Something. The grand prize winner will receive $100,000 during the live broadcast.

“Do Something is the first outside partner we’ve worked with in such a large capacity because we’re impressed by the team and how they motivate young adults to do their best,” said Tom Calderone, President, VH1. “We’re excited to collaborate with them on an event unlike other award shows. No rubber-chicken dinners here. The Pop Rocks and caffeine will be flowing at what promises to be a fun and memorable event that will engage viewers, recognize these truly amazing individuals and inspire young people to set goals in their communities.”

Celebrity participants and venue will be announced later next year. The Do Something Awards 2010 is executive produced by Lee Rolontz for VH1 and Nancy Lublin and Jonathan Schilit for DoSomething.org.

The Do Something Awards announcement comes on the heels of VH1’s and DoSomething.org’s partnership on the recent Top 20 Celebs Gone Good special that recognized celebrities’ work on behalf of worthy causes. The special premiered on VH1 on Thursday, November 19. DoSomething.org also teamed up with the VH1 Save The Music Foundation this fall for the Save Our Music initiative, which empowered young people to lead the fight to keep music education in their local schools. During September and October, the two groups provided free advocacy toolkits, project ideas and support to young people fighting for music education in their schools. The best efforts will be awarded grants for their schools’ music education programs and other exciting prizes.

Get ready to watch and re-watch this year’s concert movie event of a lifetime: Michael Jackson’s This Is It will come to TV via MTV Networks in 2011. Check the press release below for more info:

MTV Networks has acquired the exclusive United States television rights to air one of the most anticipated films of the year — Michael Jackson’s This Is It.

The critically acclaimed and commercially successful film becomes available to MTV Networks in 2011, and continuing through the entire six-year network window. The deal includes all domestic channels under the MTV Networks umbrella, including MTV, VH1, VH1 Classic and Palladia and rounds out the music networks’ commitment to celebrating the life and legacy of Michael Jackson. The arrangement also extends to Viacom’s BET Networks, including its newest channel, Centric. Channels and premiere dates will be announced at a later time.

“The film is a true testament to Michael’s musical genius, passion and commitment to his craft,” said Van Toffler, President of the MTV Networks Music Group. “Michael Jackson has always been inextricably tied to our viewers as they witnessed his evolution from a talented performer to a global icon who redefined music. Now, with this film, we can help give his fans a chance to see his final performance.”

This Is It, premiered nationwide on October 28, earning the No. 1 box office spot for the weekend and offering Jackson fans and music lovers everywhere a rare, behind-the-scenes look at the performer as he developed, created and rehearsed for his sold-out, historic comeback concerts that would have kicked off this past summer at London’s O2 Arena. VH1 to do a reality show about people with OCD

Having OCD is kind of an adorable ‘quirk’ when you’re, say, Monk. But that’s the Hollywood version.

Now we’re going to get an unscripted version.

VH1 is producing a reality show featuring people who suffer from obsessive compulsive disorder, according to Variety.

The series will follow a group of patients with severe forms of the disease–and force them all to live together as they undergo treatment.

“Our viewers will see something of themselves in these patients as I think everyone has a little bit of OCD, making it surprisingly relatable,” says Jeff Olde, VH1’s senior VP of programming. “We want to open people’s eyes and hearts to a very real side of this disorder that can often ruin careers and relationships.”

The cable network seems to be turning into the self-help channel. The OCD project joins the rehabilitation series “Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew” and its upcoming spinoff, “Sex Rehab With Dr. Drew.”
