VH1's newest award show "To Do Something Awards"

VH1 is teaming up with DoSomething.org for a new, uplifting take on the televised awards show. Details in the press release below…

VH1 has partnered with DoSomething.org to create the premiere award platform for young people and social change. VH1 will televise live the 2010 Do Something Awards on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 from Los Angeles.

This partnership combines America’s largest organization for young people and social change with a network known for innovation and edge. The program will honor the most amazing young people who are rocking causes in extraordinary ways.

“Do not expect violins and tuxedos. It’s gonna be loud and live,” says Nancy Lublin, CEO and Chief Old Person of DoSomething.org.

Since 1996, Do Something has honored the nation’s best young world-changers—like Maggie Doyne who created an orphanage in Nepal at the age of 17 and now (at the ripe age of 22) is the legal guardian to 27 children. Do Something award winners represent the pivotal “doers” in their field, cause, or issue.

The five nominees will be rewarded with a community grant, participation in this live tv show, media coverage and continued support from Do Something. The grand prize winner will receive $100,000 during the live broadcast.

“Do Something is the first outside partner we’ve worked with in such a large capacity because we’re impressed by the team and how they motivate young adults to do their best,” said Tom Calderone, President, VH1. “We’re excited to collaborate with them on an event unlike other award shows. No rubber-chicken dinners here. The Pop Rocks and caffeine will be flowing at what promises to be a fun and memorable event that will engage viewers, recognize these truly amazing individuals and inspire young people to set goals in their communities.”

Celebrity participants and venue will be announced later next year. The Do Something Awards 2010 is executive produced by Lee Rolontz for VH1 and Nancy Lublin and Jonathan Schilit for DoSomething.org.

The Do Something Awards announcement comes on the heels of VH1’s and DoSomething.org’s partnership on the recent Top 20 Celebs Gone Good special that recognized celebrities’ work on behalf of worthy causes. The special premiered on VH1 on Thursday, November 19. DoSomething.org also teamed up with the VH1 Save The Music Foundation this fall for the Save Our Music initiative, which empowered young people to lead the fight to keep music education in their local schools. During September and October, the two groups provided free advocacy toolkits, project ideas and support to young people fighting for music education in their schools. The best efforts will be awarded grants for their schools’ music education programs and other exciting prizes.

VH1 Interview: Paradeez (For The Love Of Ray-J 2)

Below, the most recent cast-off of For the Love of Ray J 2 talks guns, cats and the pitfall of being there to make friends.

How was your time on the show?

It was crazy. It was definitely an experience and it’s not what you expect.

How?

If you didn’t win a challenge, you didn’t get to spend time with Ray. I thought I’d have more time to get to know him. By the time we had our date, of course we weren’t going to have a lot to talk about. He already was getting close to people, so we were just awkward. Also, my date was a spa date, which is relaxing. How are you supposed to be outgoing and talkative? A spa date puts you to sleep. I think it would have been different if I went bowling or to the beach. Those are fun, outgoing things.

I think your eight cats were underrated as a conversation piece.

It shouldn’t have been a problem. I told him about my school and my dreams and my goals and how I finished fashion school and am working on my business degree. I told him everything, they just didn’t show it.

But about the cats, eight is a lot.

Yeah, but if you have enough room, and the time and love, there’s no problem.

Are they from rescues or bred?

A couple are from rescues, but my first cat had kittens. So we have that litter and a few others. I don’t know, I didn’t think that was a problem, and if I got eliminated because of all my cats, at least I didn’t get eliminated for being a whore or something. I don’t mind getting eliminated for animals, because I love them.

Ray asked you what he was doing wrong regarding your connection. What did you think of that?

I wish he would have told me what I was doing wrong.

What was it, then? Were you two just not meant to be?

No, I think if we were in a different situation, like if we met at the club or somewhere I’m comfortable and not competing. Competing is hard. I think we could still be meant to be, but the situation was weird. I think Ray is a really cool guy. He’s pretty much like me. He’s a party guy. Whoever he ends up with is going to be lucky.

Heartbreaker said that all you have to offer are boobs. What did you think of that?

It’s pretty funny. It’s a competition, she can say that, but she knows I’m the s***, too.

Do you think the show portrayed you fairly?

In a way, because it showed that I love guns and I love animals. But it somehow twisted that into being a psycho thing, like I shouldn’t love guns and animals. It also made me seem like a quiet and shy person that doesn’t talk. I’m the opposite. I’m loud and outgoing.

What makes you think you looked psycho because of the gun thing? Ray’s reaction?

Yeah. I know Ray likes guns, too. I think he’s cool with them.

What was your experience with guns growing up, anyway? Were they lying around?

They’re in the gun cases all over my house. We have guns everywhere. But I grew up in Hawaii, where you go hunting. You take the guns out when you go camping. For me, if you’re raised with them, you don’t go grabbing them and killing people. You know what they do, so it wasn’t weird for me to have them hanging around. I wasn’t going crazy.

Do you have any thoughts on the drink-throwing of last episode?

I think Flossy had it coming. She just kept talking s*** on everybody. She was backstabbing. Jaguar was her best friend, and she just started backstabbing her. When she grabbed the bottle and said, “F*** everybody,” it was like, OK, now you really want everybody to be in your face. She caused everybody to hate her.

It seemed like you came up with the name Paradeez. Did you?

No, I wanted Paradise, and Ray chose Paradeez. I think it’s a cool name. It fits, it’s fun. I’m young, I don’t have a problem with a name like that. It’s a fun name. I don’t care.

Any regrets?

I should have talked to Ray more instead of socializing so much with the girls. He should have been my whole focus. The girls kind of threw me off.

Bad Girls Club 4 Premeire Review

Ok so here is my take on the premeire of the 4th season of Bad Girls Club. These girls are crazy! Now I was afraid that this season was going to suck, but I was wrong lol there are some crazy chicks. One in particular Natalie. Natalie kinda looks like a cross between Sappharyi and Raven from Rock of love. She will be the first chick to leave. she is too much! Now the girl that is annoying is Annie (sigh) girl your on the wrong show, please go on the Hills. She is too preppy to be on this show, she should be on The Hills talking about losing weight and being anorexic SMH. i The girls that I like, I really like Florina, she seems like a cool tomboy chick, I also like Kendra. We will see how thise season will unfold, it looks like to be a crazy season

Fantasia For Real Premeiring January

As previously announced, American Idol winner and platinum-selling R&B artist Fantasia is set to star in her own VH1 reality show. We now have the details and the premiere date — check the press release below.

VH1 will give viewers a close-up view into the complex, touching and surprisingly relatable life of recording artist, actress and American Idol winner Fantasia. The series follows Fantasia as she juggles her career and single-motherhood while devoting her energy into recording her highly anticipated third album. The 8 episode, 30-minute docu-series Fantasia For Real is slated to premiere January 11, 2010 at 10PM on VH1.

Six years ago, Fantasia was a young single mother from High Point, North Carolina singing in her church choir and struggling to raise her daughter, Zion. On a whim, she tried out for the third season of American Idol, and seemingly overnight the world discovered Fantasia’s tremendous voice. Five years and 8 Grammy® Award nominations later, life couldn’t look more different for Fantasia. Her first album, Free Yourself, was a platinum-selling, chart-topping success, bringing her wealth, fame, and recognition as an accomplished artist. Fantasia has worked with many music industry legends, including Elton John, Aretha Franklin, Patti LaBelle, and Missy Elliot. In 2007 Fantasia was chosen to star as Celie in the acclaimed Broadway musical The Color Purple. It is with heavy :(’s that we post this exit interview. Our beloved Melissa is the latest contestant booted from I Want To Work for Diddy 2. In her parting monologue, Melissa drops the word “brang,” talks about sharing space with lions and tigers, and says that she was not one of the popular ones in the house. Maybe not, but she was one of the popular ones in our hearts. And in the end, that’s what really matters.
